Khesed: A Word Study on God’s Loyal Love

God describes Himself as compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, overflowing with loyal love and faithfulness. God demonstrates these characteristics throughout the story of the Bible as He interacts with His people and invites them to rest and walk in His ways. In the story of the Bible, God’s loyal love focuses on the family of Abraham. This is because God wanted them to become the type of people who would show God’s loyal love to the rest of the world. And even though Abraham’s family lies, cheats, and steals, God never goes back on His promise to him. 

 

Rather, God promises that one day a king will come from the family of Judah. This king will earn the obedience of the nations and fulfill God’s promise to restore God’s garden blessing to the world. Sure enough, Jesus comes as the perfect human and ultimate demonstration of God’s loyal love and commitment to never give up on His plan for humanity.
